This American Heart Month, Providence is proud to announce the opening of a new Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah, Washington, made possible through a generous donation to the Providence Inland Northwest Foundation. This creates a significant resource for the rural community, bringing vital healthcare services closer to home.
For many residents of Chewelah and the surrounding areas, access to specialized cardiac services previously required travel to Spokane – a journey both time-consuming and taxing for patients in need of consistent care. Thanks to the heartfelt contribution from a benefactor who personally experienced these challenges, the program will now provide comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation in Stevens County.
Cardiac rehabilitation helps patients recover and strengthen their heart following a diagnosis or heart procedure. It involves a combination of exercise, education and lifestyle changes. Patients will receive recommendations on how to stay physically active, create a heart-healthy diet and provide emotional support.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation that has made this program a reality,” said Ron Rehn, chief administrative officer of Providence’s St. Joseph’s Hospital. “This investment in our community ensures that we can continue to provide essential health services and meet the evolving needs of our patients.”
“We recognize the importance of having vital services close to home – especially for vulnerable patients, like those who have just suffered a heart attack,” Providence Chief Executive Susan Stacey said. “We will be able to offer patients peace of mind in knowing that their heart is in capable, caring hands with our multidisciplinary team.”
The new clinic will begin seeing patients as soon as possible. Patients will need a referral from their provider to receive services.
