Newman Regional Health has added Dr. Shari Quick and Peggy Fell, APRN-C, to lead the hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, according to a news release from the hospital.
Together, Quick and Fell bring decades of clinical experience and will oversee services for patients recovering from serious injury, illness and surgery.
Quick, a board-certified physiatrist, joins Newman Regional Health with more than 25 years of experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She completed her residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she also served as chief resident, and has spent more than two decades caring for rehabilitation patients in Kansas.
Her clinical background includes neurologic injury, stroke recovery, musculoskeletal conditions and complex medical rehabilitation. She has also held leadership roles in hospital governance, state advisory councils and rehabilitation program development.
“Dr. Quick’s depth of experience in guiding interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams will be a tremendous asset to our patients and staff,” Heather Alyward, chief nursing officer for Newman Regional Health, said in the release.
Working alongside Quick is Fell, an advanced practice registered nurse with more than 16 years of experience in inpatient and post-acute care. Fell earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Washburn University and has experience caring for hospitalized patients, nursing home residents and individuals with complex medical needs.
In addition to supporting inpatient rehabilitation services, Fell will also work with patients admitted for acute care services alongside the hospitalist team, according to the release. She will continue her role as a member of the Hand In Hand Hospice team, where she has provided clinical oversight, including symptom and pain management and coordination with interdisciplinary care teams, since 1999.
At Newman Regional Health, Fell is known for her collaborative approach and focus on continuity of care, the release stated. In her rehabilitation role, she will help coordinate treatment plans, manage medical needs during recovery and support transitions of care.
“Peggy brings a patient-focused mindset that is essential in rehabilitation medicine,” said Jessie Boyce, director of nursing for inpatient rehabilitation services.
Newman Regional Health’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Program provides intensive therapy for patients recovering from conditions including stroke, orthopedic injury, neurologic disorders, trauma, amputations and major surgery. Patients receive individualized care plans and participate in multiple hours of therapy each day, supported by a multidisciplinary care team.
The program is located on the second floor of Newman Regional Health.
“With the leadership of Dr. Quick and Peggy Fell, we are continuing to grow a rehabilitation program that delivers strong outcomes,” CEO Cathy Pimple said in the release.
More information about the inpatient rehabilitation program is available on Newman Regional Health’s website.
